After a few false starts we are finally on our way to Maine. The first time we left, after on 15 miles, we developed a leak in the power steering cooler. Sounds simple but $700 and 5 days later we are off.
We spent one pleasant night in Bastrop State Park, and then 2 nights at one of my favorite places Radcliff Lake Rec Area in the Davey Crocket National Forest. We pretty much have the place to ourselves so it has been a good visit.
That’s me on my new electric bicycle exploring the CCC trail. There are great elevated walkways though the pine forests And here is Radcliff Lake in the morning. It’s only 95 degrees outside so why not just relax by a nice fire? Here are a few of the birds that my app was able to find.
Tomorrow we leave for another one of my favorites Caddo Lake State Park.
It is a few weeks before we take off for Maine, so we thought that we would have a practice run to see how our new toys work. We are presently camping in South Llano State Park. For my birthday Kim gave me an electric bike. I have really enjoyed using it as instead of just 5 or 6 miles I am able to easily do 25.
All folded up neatly in the back or our SUV. It also did very well on the trails.
On the other hand, Kim purchased a new origami fold-up kayak, which at first was a challenge to set up, but quickly converted into a full size kayak.
Is this really going to be a kayak?Looks like it is a kayak!
All in all, I would say we are ready to tackle our up comingtrip now if somebody could please help us getting gracefully up off the ground.
One of the best things that I did for this trip is to bring along the add-on of Apple CarPlay. That allowed me to not only see Google maps on a large screen, but also to listen to all my favorite Jazz songs and Podcasts, which made the driving so much more enjoyable.
A perfect ending to a perfect trip
My final night of “vacation” camping was at Petit Jean State Park, which was Arkansas’ first state park. And what a finish it was with an hour hike straight down to see a jewel like the Cedar Falls in all its splendor. What a great place to be alone early in the morning to collect my thoughts, eat breakfast and of course photograph this natural wonder.
Now I am back home in Texas to be welcomed by my lovely wife and adoring dog Nikki.
