Everything is Bigger in Maine

We arrived just in time to have a roaring fire. It was a fairly cool night, so a fire was welcomed by everyone, except perhaps by the neighbors? Oh wait, there are none!

Bigger is better, no?
We found a lovely spot to park our little camper for the next few months
Everyone had a gran ol’ time.
Did you really think that I would leave you without at least one arty photo?

Thousand Trails Campground in Sturbridge Massachusetts

This is our last stop before getting to Maine. We didn’t know what to expect as I found out after we booked it that it had many bad reviews, and, at least for us, it was very expensive. I mean like a $100 per night. It was, however, the only place that I could find between Maine and our last campground on the weekend.

That little one in the middle is us! Nice view, huh?

The reviews said that there was not much room between the sites- true. That it was difficult to back into your site-true! That the park had seen better days- also true, but there was something in the way that the regulars, of which there were many, had a real affection for the place. It was infectious, and quickly rubbed off on us.

The swimming beach on the small pond was enjoyed by all.
Up on the hill the spaces were also tight, but private and beautiful.

The temps couldn’t be any better. Cloudy and in the 70’s. After all, that’s what we had driven over 2000 miles to find.

Two Very Different Parks

The first park we stayed in was an army corps park called Riffle Run Park in West Virginia. We secured the last available spot which, unfortunately came without electric. So even though it was closing in on 100 degrees—no ac! We were in full on sunshine, so it was a good test to see how well our solar system charged our 200 watt lithium batteries. Everything worked perfectly, exactly as it should, however you need a lot more watts to run an ac!

Lots of Sunshine

There were some nice things about the park.

Such as the very photogenic dam
A beautiful smallish lake.
Too bad this was a only a cell phone shot! Where is my big boy camera when you needed it?

The next park we moved to was New Germany State Park in Maryland. It couldn’t have been more different. Cooler temps, heavily wooded and electric for ac, which we barely needed anyway.

Yes Jack, that is a badly pasted in Photoshopped bear. They are here, but we didn’t see any.
There was great swimming!
And great tails for walks and bike rides.

It has been interesting not having internet or wifi for the last 4 days. There has been a lot of walking, riding, reading and just plain staring!

Tomorrow, if it doesn’t rain too heavily, we will head on into Peninsula. If not, we will just have to spend another night in this wonderful hidden gem of a park.

Still at Kentucky Dam State Park

Just when I thought that we would move on it looks like tropical storm Beryl had other ideas. We had rain all night long and into this morning so we thought we would delay our departure by a day.

The blue dot is us.

In the meantime it gave me some time to work on my photography. Here is a shot I took of the bridge over the Tennessee River.

Here is a black and white version
And here is the color version

I like them both, but do you have a preference?
