Village Creek State Park

Wynne, Arkansas

We are still in Arkansas. We moved from a wonderful park called Lake Catherine State Park. We couldn’t get a reservation for the 4th of July so we moved a few hours east and a little closer to our Maine goal. Village Creek is a splendidly beautiful park and it is almost empty on this holiday. When I asked the attendant why, he simply replied, “‘cause it’s just too dang hot!” I can attest to that.

My e-bike just turned 100 (miles that is) on this 4th of July
That’s Kim floating peacefully on the surface of the water. I was not so lucky 🍀

We took the foldable paper kayak out on Lake Catherine and Kim had a wonderful couple of hours. Then it was my turn. I and it did great, for the first hour. Then I noticed a little bit of water coming in. About the time I got close to the shore I just sank! Later we figured out that it is rated for 200 lbs and I am 195. Fortunately I am a good swimmer and we got the boat back to shore. We are going to try to exchange of for the next model up which will support 300 lbs. Hopefully, I can stay away from too many treats until then?

Iron Mountain Campground

We have spent 3 wonderful days at Iron Mountain Recreation Area which is just outside of Arkadelphia Arkansas. It has been hot, it rained an we had an invasion of tiny black biting ants, but despite the challenges we have truly enjoyed ourselves.

Here we are enjoying a glass of wine at sunset with our neighbor
There were plenty of hilly trails to give my e-bike a challenge.
This is our route so far!
Yesterday marks a week on the road. The blue dot marks our present location.

We do have a ways to go! And our next camping spot is only 40 minutes away! So not too much progress in the next few days. Rest assured that we will get there, but our plan is to have a lot of fun doing it.

Caddo Lake State Park…one of my Favorites.

A picture says it all

It has been a great 2 days and we will miss this very magical place, but I am sure that we will be back one day. we now head off to Arkansas.

And now I leave you with a few of the beautiful birds, who were easily identified thanks to the Merlin Birdlife APP.

Finally, We are on Our Way!

After a few false starts we are finally on our way to Maine. The first time we left, after on 15 miles, we developed a leak in the power steering cooler. Sounds simple but $700 and 5 days later we are off.

We spent one pleasant night in Bastrop State Park, and then 2 nights at one of my favorite places Radcliff Lake Rec Area in the Davey Crocket National Forest. We pretty much have the place to ourselves so it has been a good visit.

That’s me on my new electric bicycle exploring the CCC trail.
There are great elevated walkways though the pine forests
And here is Radcliff Lake in the morning.
It’s only 95 degrees outside so why not just relax by a nice fire?
Here are a few of the birds that my app was able to find.

Tomorrow we leave for another one of my favorites Caddo Lake State Park.
