Kim Researching the Past

Curlew Lake State Park, Washington

2019-09-07

For the last 3 days we have been camping at a state park just outside of Republic Washington, and visiting with Kim’s cousin. Both are trying to do research on their families past.

We spent the day going to British Columbia in Canada so that Laurie and Kim could check out the lists the archives, and to just soak in the feeling of what it must have been like to live in this area almost a century ago.

Just one of many old homesteads that dot the landscape

You know that I couldn’t help put put in an arty photo!

Today we are going to drive to a couple of old abandoned mining towns that sit almost on the Canadian border. The girls hope to get a feeling of what it most have been like for their relatives to live in a mining town, and I just hope to replenish my supply of “arty” photos.

Washington State Here We Come

Pipe Creek, TX

Our bags are packed and we are ready to go for 3 weeks of roaming and photographing and looking for long lost relatives hopefully in all the right places.

As you can see we are NOT traveling light this time. Instead we have everything needed to camp on the road. I’ll let you know as we go along what we forgot and what we didn’t use.

How about a few drone shots?

I was so close on this one, and I really wanted to fly the drone through the arch, but chickened out at the last minute!

And here is my campsite at Escalante Monument National Park.

And here was the view looking in the other direction. Later that night, when it was totally dark at 3:30 am, I would shot another round of Milky Way shots.

That’s it. I am on my way home to Texas. I can’t wait to go through all of my 1000 shots!

How about a few of my Photo Memories?

I am in Las Vegas. I took a huge walk this morning and photographed the city before there were many people on the streets. I am now back in my hotel with a little down time so I thought that I would post a few of my better shots/memories.

Here is one from Zion National Park

And here is one from Kodachrome State Park shot on a very cold, but clear night of the Milky Way.

These two photographs are from Escalante National Monument

This is from the Capital Reef National Park. Only a panorama could do it justice.

It was hard to take a bad photo on this trip so it was especially hard trying to select just a few. Hope that you enjoyed looking at them. It’s back to Texas in the morning 😂
