Our second full day in Bogota

It is kind of an adventure doing anything in a south of the border country. Today was no exception.  Since this was to be out last day in Bogota, we thought that we might do something touristy and interesting. We settled on The Catedral de Sal (Cathedral of Salt) which was voted by Colombians as one of the “Wonders of Columbia.”  You guessed it, it is an underground church complete with 12 stations of the cross made completely of salt!

No it was not as easy to get to as our guide book said. It never is. Walking-taxi-walking-bus-walking-getting lost many times, and we were there by noon. Boy was it worth it as you might be able to see from the photos?

The size of this structure is amazing.

Here you can see one of the angels guarding the church

They hold services here on Sunday.

Here is Kim photographing one of the many salt sculptures.

Getting home was much easier as we were now experts.

We have arrived.

Last night we arrived in Bogota Colombia after 10 pm.  Our hotel was further from the airport than we realized so it was late before we actually got to sleep.

This morning after a nice buffet breakfast on the rooftop restaurant we walked over to the Bank to change dollars to pesos. I had to fill out 4 pages of forms, but 2,000,000 pesos later we were felling very flush so we got in a cab and went to the old part of Bogota called La Candelaria, and just walked around taking pictures.

The taxi ride home was long but filed with lots of unique sites. I especially enjoyed seeing all of the grafitii with seemed to decorate almost every open space.

I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Why are we still sitting around?

So WHY are we still sitting around on our porch and drinking beer? Don’t we have a trip to get ready for? Well, we were planning on leaving tomorrow until we actually looked at our tickets.

“Hey, this says we leave on the 2nd, what’s today’s date?” It only took us a few minutes to figure out that today being the 30th we weren’t actually going to leave for a few days.

Mentally springing into action we decided to go to the movies with our new found time. I now can really recommend “Hidden Figures.” One thing we don’t have a problem doing is “relaxing.”

I wonder what we will do tomorrow?
