Things are Getting Better

Big Bend National Park

Rio Grande Camp

Here is a pretty cool photo I shot between Alpine and Marathon Texas on the way to Big Bend.

They’re everywhere

I am so happy to be in one place for a while. Life is just mellow here. Although it froze last night, this afternoon turned out to be shorts weather. I am so glad that I didn’t wholly listen to the forecast and packed some warm weather cloths.

This morning I got up early, read and then walked over to the wildlife viewing area. I had the place to myself except for this preening heron.

The setting moon put on quite a show too.

Then I drove over to Boquillas Canyon where I also, once again, even though it’s Saturday, had the place to myself until about 10:30 when a few birders and photographers hiked in. Tourists started arriving shortly after that.

You knew that I HAD to put in a black and white image!

I then drove over to the Hot Springs, made lunch and then took another photo hike. Only by this time it was starting to get hot and after dragging on for a while I came back to the shade of my campsite.

I just love this image of a rock wall and the mountains that I shot at the Hot Springs.

Pretty good day and it’s only 5 pm!

A Pretty Good Start

Alpine, TX

This is just my second night and although I have not yet made it to Big Bend it has been a pretty good start.

Last night I camped at Amistad National Rec Area. There is a nice lake with a lot a sweet choices for camping. It was warm but very windy. Still I had a nice mellow start to my trip.

A really great sunset to welcome me on my first night.

The next morning it was like I had the entire Highway 90 to myself. It was clear sailing. I stopped at Seminole Canyon State Park were I had breakfast and a nice walk down into the canyon.

Further on I got the courage to fly my drone down another canyon. This one was all fenced off so I couldn’t get a good photo with out trespassing. I am not that good at flying. I have already sent it to the bottom of one river! Still I got in a couple of flights.

Me. Drone, I couldn’t have got this shot without you!

I finished up in Alpine Texas where I am in an RV park before heading out to Big Bend tomorrow morning.

Big Bend Here I Come

Still in Pipe Creek

I am packed (camera and drone) and ready to leave on a 3 week adventure to Big Bend National Park. This is a solo adventure. Kim is going to stay behind to enjoy the solitude of Pipe Creek. I might meet a couple of photography friends later in the trip, but nothing is certain except the adventure.

Connection is poor in that part of Texas, but hopefully I will be able to have a few updates to this blog?
