Back home

Home in Pipe Creek, TX
March 7, 2015

Back home and sitting comfortably in front of the fireplace. Yes, it IS cold in Texas. Costa Rica seems like a distant memory. All I have left are the blog entries, my photos and my memories.

Tomorrow I bid adieu to Kim who leaves for Sierra Leone. She will be there for the next few months working for Doctors Without Borders. I will be playing bachelor. I need to start working on projects around the house, and start making stock for the start of my show season, but believe me when I say that I am already planning my new trip. Mmmmm! Let's see. Columbia, Cuba or maybe Papua New Guinea!

Is this a happy man, or what?

We are on our way home

Surfing into the sunset

That's it! Today we catch a taxi to take us to the Airport Hilton. Don't ask how we can go from virtually camping at Palo Verde to the Hilton. None the less we are beginning our journey that we take us back to Pipe Creek, Texas.

It has been a most unusual trip for us. There have been some real highs, and although there certainly have been lows, we have tried our best not to let it get us down. After all we are on vacation.

In the last few days we have had some wonderful bonding time with Leslianna, John and Paige, as well as Stacey who is Leslianna's best friends. We have had some very nice trips to the beach for sunrise and sunset as well as some nice meals in between. They are all what you would call “foodies”. They love to talk about food stories before and after meals. That has just never been me, still I have genuinely enjoyed the comrodery and the laughter along with them. What a nice bunch of people!

Wow, here are a few photos from the last few days.

Another absolutely perfect day in paradice

Is this good surfing conditions?

This has been another perfect day. Early this morning I walked down to the beach. The wind was once again blowing heavily from the land making for some spectacular surf. I sat on a piece of driftwood, and tried to photograph the early round of surfers as they struggled with the wind.

After that I took a walk up and over the sand dunes to the next beach. It had a completely different look then ours. It was filled with waves crashing on the rocks, and lots and lots of birds. What a nice nice way to spend the morning.

Now I just need to figure out what to do with the rest of the day.

Ah, the beach life.

The wind was blowing the surf backwards

So, so far so good. We have landed at Leslianna's little hideaway just a few block from a gorgeous beach. There are many surfers that use it, Leslianna being one of them, but just as many tourists also use the beach, especially at sunset when everyone finds their place to settle in for a usually spectacular show.

Paige, Kim's sister and John, her husband, are here also. They where to arrive from California to the beach, a few days before us, but what with the stolen bag fiasco we found ourselves returning our rental car on the day after they had arrived at the Liberia airport. We were on our way to return our rental car, when we found ourselves driving right by the airport hotel that they were staying in. We decided to drop in and see if the might not have left yet. Sure enough they we still there. We had a nice breakfast with them and then shared the 2 1/2 hour tourist bus with them down to the beach. It was a perfect hookup in a distant foreign land.

We have not yet fallen into a routine, but it is very mellow passing of the the day and evening. There is always much discussion as to should we go to the beach or for ice cream. Neither one a bad choice. The morning seems to be taken up by coffee, a trip to the beach and a cooling swim. Then lay in the sun followered by more laying in the sun. Then, oh my god it is already time for breakfast. Well, you get the idea.
